Our Story

Team Bakker has been a competitive Junior Women’s and Women’s Curling Team based in Calgary, Alberta.

From 2016-2022, Ryleigh Bakker skipped Team Bakker, a competitive Junior Women’s curling team. Team Bakker highlights over this period include being the top U18 Women’s team on the Alberta Junior Curling Tour tour based on Tour results as well as winning the Gold Medal at U18 Alberta Provincial Curling Championships and the Bronze Medal at U18 National Championships in 2017/2018. In 2018/2019, Team Bakker qualified for both U18 and U21 Provincials and were invited to and participated in the prestigious Curling Alberta Excel Team Program. In 2019/2020, we continued as Excel Team Program athletes and competed out of the National Training Centre - winning the inaugural Curling Alberta Excel Cup and qualifying for playoffs in every Tour event in which we competed. Though the 2020/2021 season was cut short by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Team Bakker came back strong in 2021/2022 as Excel Team Program and National Training Centre athletes. In 2021/2022, Ryleigh was honoured to receive the For the Love of Curling Scholarship presented by Curling Canada for achievement in sport, academics, and community service.

After aging out of Junior eligibility, Ryleigh took two years off from competitive curling to focus on her professional career. For the 2024/2025 season, Ryleigh joined forces with Alberta curling talent Sara Therrien as well as accomplished players Stephanie Todd and Renee Michaud, both former Saskatchewan competitors. This was a valued opportunity to compete against top talent on the World Curling Tour and grow through immersion in the elite women’s game.

Team Bakker is dedicated to the sport of curling, to our teammates, and to upholding the highest standard of conduct both on and off the ice. Shared values include trust, respect, integrity, communication, love of the game, hard work, and accountability. Team Bakker is committed to acting as positive ambassadors for our province, our sport, our sponsors, and our community.
