2021/2022 Snapshot

Our 2021/2022 season as Curling Alberta Excel Team and National Training Centre athletes was very busy in the best way! We played amazing games against curling legends, participated in unique training opportunities with the best in the sport, and had so much fun competing for awesome event wins. We are so grateful to do what we love and to have the support of our community and sponsors. Read on for season details (in chronological order)!

EVENTS AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

  • Saville Shoot Out

    • Played Team Anderson (CAN), Team Robertson (CAN), Team Homan (CAN), and Team Stiksma (CAN)

    • The highlight of our weekend was the game against Team Homan - we were tied up coming home in the 8th end (5-5), Team Homan had hammer and Rachel made a beautiful draw with her last stone to win!

  • Women in Curling Summit

    • We had an amazing time at the inaugural Women in Curling Summit

    • We thank all the incredible, inspirational people who made this event possible and whose insights and support make us better athletes - including Atina Ford Johnston who put on this event, along with Mike Libbus & the Okotoks Curling Club, Renee Sonnenberg, Heather Nedohin, Beth Iskiw, Susan O’Connor, Lori Olson-Johns, Michelle Anderson, Erin Brennan, Kristine Campbell, Jessica Amundson, Corri Morris, and Jill Officer

  • Excel Training Camp

    • Worked with Atina Ford Johnston and Jeff Hoffart at the Okotoks Curling Club, training on ice through a variety of drills and technical sessions as Curling Alberta Excel Team athletes

  • Michael Izsak Memorial Spiel

    • Event Finalists

  • Autumn Gold Curling Classic

    • Played Team Fleury (CAN), Team Anderson (CAN), Team Jentsch (GER), and Team Scheidegger (CAN)

    • Highlights included winning 4-0 over Team Anderson and taking Team Fleury to an extra end in a barn burner of a game! (final score 7-6)

  • 2022 Provincial Junior World Qualification Event

    • Although we had hopes of winning this event and moving on to compete to wear the Maple Leaf at the 2022 World Juniors, we are so proud that we worked hard, battled on the ice, and put our hearts into this competition

  • Cochrane U20 Bonspiel

    • Event Champions

  • Okotoks Ladies Alberta Open

    • Qualified for Event Playoffs

    • Event Semi-Finalists

    • We were motivated and excited to compete in a Women’s Event playoff game, and played a strong semi-final game against Team Gim (KOR) (final score 5-4)

  • Okotoks U20 Bonspiel

    • Event Semi-Finalists

  • Women’s Qualifiers

    • Competitors in the Vulcan Curling Club Women’s Provincial Qualifier

  • Practice Games with Junior TEAM korea

    • We played two sets of practice games against the junior Korean curling team to help us prepare for the back half of our season - we are lucky to have the opportunity to train against such amazing competitors and people!

  • U20 Excel Cup

    • One of six U20 women’s teams selected to compete in the 2021/2022 Curling Alberta U20 Excel Cup

  • Red Deer U20 Spiel

    • Event Champions

  • Curling Alberta Junior Provincial Championships

    • We played hard at this event but were unable to secure a spot to represent Team Alberta at the 2022 Curling Canada National Championships

    • We come away from this season having grown as athletes and people, and are so grateful for the lessons and experiences that this curling season had to offer!
